Heart to Heart: A Therapy Group for Mothers and Daughters

Mothers and daughters - what makes this relationship so hard?

For a mom, it can feel like your little buddy became a stranger overnight.

For daughters, it seems like mom never understands anymore.

The rift grows and it feels impossible to get out of the cycle of hurt or annoyance. But,

it doesn’t have to stay that way.

Through this RelateStrong Therapy Group, we will discover the patterns that are hindering your relationship and instead find the tools to communicate and care for each other effectively - in a way that makes your relationship thrive. You really can have that mother-daughter relationship you always wanted.

Join our group to discover how.

In this group you can expect to:

  • Uncover the root issues contributing to your relationship distress

  • Develop deeper connection with one another and learn how to create those connections in other relationships

  • Find tools to come back to that connection when things get hard

  • Strengthen your sense of self

  • Find lasting peace in your mother-daughter relationship and beyond

Why group therapy?

Group therapy may sound strange - I’m supposed to have therapy with a group of strangers? While this idea may seem out of the ordinary, it is a widely used and effective form of therapy that can be even more efficient than individual counseling.

Different from a support group, a therapy group provides tools and support for healing and growth as facilitated by licensed professionals. While a support group is incredibly helpful for developing relationships with others in a similar phase of life or situation, a therapy group is more focused on healing specific issues with psychological strategies. You will leave with a deep bond between other participants to be sure, but the deepest work will happen within yourself.

In group therapy, you have the opportunity to learn from, encourage, and connect with other people in the same stage of life and support each other through the healing process. Sometimes you meet someone in a completely different situation, a person that approaches life in a way you hadn’t considered before. You might also meet someone very similar to you - with the same wounds, tendencies and gifts that allows you to see yourself in a different light. You could meet a mother or daughter that remind you of another family member or relationship. In all of these, you have a unique opportunity to both receive healing and be a conduit of healing in another’s life. How beautiful to have so many women to encourage and bring healing for one another! This allows for great strides in relational healing that could take much longer with only one individual therapeutic relationship. Women helping women is a powerful force, indeed.

Of course, group confidentiality is taken very seriously and we expect all to respect one another’s investment and vulnerability in the process. The greater safety we can create together, the greater opportunity we have to experience healing. Let’s get started today.

FAQs

  • In group therapy, every person matters. When someone is absent, the group dynamic changes and the process suffers. Because of this, we require you to attend each session for the 8 weeks.

  • We do ask that you commit to every session in this process. However, we know that life happens and there are sometimes unforeseen circumstances that require your attention. If you are unable to attend a session, please have your partner attend so you can discuss notes together, and we will catch you up when you return. You will still be charged the full amount for that week.

  • Yes, this group is designed for mother-daughter pairs. If you would like to connect with one of our counselors, they are both available for individual counseling.

  • Absolutely! Our only age requirement is that all participants are 14 years of age and older.
